A brand new year is here! Is it your new year resolution to keep your body healthy? Here are some simple tips to help you with that:
1) Sleep early
According to some studies, an average person needs about 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. A research done by HelpGuide found that your body will crave for more food if you have insufficient sleep. Try to get more sleep so that you won’t feel hungry too often!
2) Consume foods which are in its natural form
What this means is to eat more fruits, veggies, lean meat, eggs, nuts, whole grains and avoid processed food. Natural food are high in protein, fibre, complex carbs, which is what you need to stay lean and provide you with sustained energy. Also, most processed food do not contain enough nutrients and are high with sugars and preservatives, which would not help you in your fitness plan.
3) Avoid alcohol
At seven calories per gram, alcohol supplies almost twice much calories protein or carbohydrates. A simple example for you is that when you consume small glass of wine which is about 5-ounces, you would have gained 110 calories of which 91 calories came from the alcohol and the remaining from carbohydrates. Beer lovers do take note as contains more carbohydrates (although many of the "Lite" beers have a carb content similar to a glass of wine) compared with the same volume of wine.
4) Drink Green Tea
Green tea aids weight loss by accelerating metabolism. Originating from China, green tea has been used as a medicine for thousands of years and is now widely consumed throughout Asia. This beverage has a multitude of uses from lowering blood pressure to preventing cancer. Another interesting fact is that green tea contains EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate) which helps to boost metabolism and acts as an enzyme that breaks down fats, hence contributing to weight loss!
