On the 30th of November, this year’s Food Hunt event, dubbed ‘ONO’, has come to a close. With a heavy heart, we bid our goodbyes to the event but fret not as we will bring you a recap of the days’ events! Tasting delicious food is one of the many pleasures in life. If you are a foodie, we’re sure you will enjoy reading this article! If you’re not, take this opportunity to discover the scrumptious food lurking around our city!
Feeling excited? So were our participants, as they embarked on their journey around Singapore to locate as many food stalls as possible. Between food stations, the teams of 5 will have to complete challenges and games which then allow them to gobble away a serving of food sponsored by our sponsors. For this year, there were a total of 12 stations located around Singapore, where participants had to compete in games against other teams at the various stations, in order to gain clues and earn points.
Before the race began, our participants gathered for a brief in school, to take note of important rules that they would have to follow throughout the race. These rules and regulations are implemented to ensure that the integrity of the competition is not compromised, as well as to look out for the participant’s safety. After the briefing, the first task began with teams requiring to complete some mini-games. Once this is completed, the teams could then proceed off to the game station as stated on the given clue sheet.
While the teams were tasked to go to the designated game stations, you could definitely see all the teams gleaming with tenacious spirit as they give their best effort while competing against each other for the mouth-watering meal before them.

Changi Village Hokkien Mee
Noodles were springy and flavourful and it was neither too dry or too wet. The noodle absorbs the sweetness and umami from the stock. The other ingredients in the dish were squid, prawns and pork belly.
The prawn and squid were fresh and flavourful.
To complete the dish, lime and sambal chili helps to complement and enhance the flavours of the savoury dish.

Chye Lye Ah Ma Mee Sua
A very large bowl of mee sua contains a huge variety of ingredients such as meatballs, sliced pork, thick slices of liver, stewed mushrooms, prawns and a poached egg. It was topped with finely sliced then fried ginger, spring onion and coriander with a dash of Chinese wine to enhance its flavor and fragrance.
The noodles were silky and smooth.
The soup is rich and flavourful with the umami from the pork.
You could definitely taste the love and hard work put in by the vendors.

Common Bistro Chef
Chocolate Chip Waffle
The waffle had a crispy exterior with a nice golden brown colour, while the interior of the waffle was fluffy and soft. Both textures contributed to the key elements to a good waffle.
This waffle stood out from the rest with the addition of the chocolate chips as it complemented the fluffiness and light flavour of the waffle.

Ji De Lai
The chicken skin was smooth while the meat was juicy, fresh and tender. The rice was flavourful, with a hint of ginger and garlic. The chicken was sliced and placed on a plate of flavourful rice, served with garlic chili and sweet dark sauce.
The dish was accompanied with a bowl of soup. At the same time, the soup had extra wantons in it unlike other stalls.

Spicy Fish Roll KeKouMian
The noodles were springy, thin and easy to chew. The soup had a sufficient amount of oil and had a deep orange colour. It was spicy, sour and fragrant.
The dish included springy fish balls filled with fish roe, chewy meatballs filled with bits of fragrant minced meat, an egg and vegetables.
Spice lovers will enjoy this dish as it requires a certain level for spice tolerance.

Black Pepper Sizzling Hot Chicken
The chicken was tender and sauteed with black pepper sauce that was dark, fragrant and spicy.The stall was generous with the portion. The dish was accompanied with a serving of rice and a generous amount of bean sprouts.

Kim Heng Roasted Delights
Crispy Roasted Pork with Char Siew Rice
The roasted pork is soft and juicy while the lard of the Crispy Roasted Pork melts in the mouth immediately. The skin was crispy and fragrant. Upon chewing the Char Siew, it was chewy and sweet as savoury juices will tingled our senses. The rice is well cooked with a fluffy texture and fragrant aroma

The peppery broth was delicious, filled with herbs and spices. The soup had a fragrant aroma. The tender pork in the soup was mixed with chilli padi and dark sauce goes extremely well and tasted very delicious. The stall also offers free re-fill of soup. Rice is well steamed, goes well with soup.

Comes with mushroom, beef, and some vegetables.
Tender handmade noodles were easy to chew, and the taste of the soup can be found in the noodles. The beef aroma of the soup can be smelled and tasted.
Rubbery texture in the mushroom with crunchy vegetables which were very fresh makes the ramen taste havenly.
The main ingredient, beef which is super tender and instantly melts in your mouth. It is the type of beef we are looking for.

The juicy mushroom was chewy and springy, was pan-fried with garlic. The idea of mushrooms and garlic was perfect. The overwhelming garlic taste mixes well with the fresh and crunchy lettuce. It gives a great balance to the dish.

Apple cinnamon tea, Ice cream flavour of Strawberry & Earlgrey
The apple cinnamon tea comes with a layer of foam on top of the drink, foamy was the best attributes that comes with this tea, and mild sweet taste from the tea and slight touch of cinnamon, makes the tea unstoppable. The ice-cream was rich in flavour, delicate sweetness which is nourishing and mouthwatering are irresistible

Noodles were springy and flavourful and it was neither too dry or too wet.
The ingredients that came with the noodle mushroom is juicy and chewy, and the fried tau kee is springy and yummy, fishball is very chewy as well.
Fried meat ball was served as a side dish and is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, very crunchy as well. The soup was clear, and not salty.

At the cut-off time, all teams then made their way back to school where it would be the final location for the participants to gather before the lucky draw and prize presentation segment.
With bellies full of food and cardio since morning, the participants enjoyed and had a great time throughout the event with their teammates and treasured memories and stronger bonds were made which made everyone a winner of something priceless.
Without forgetting the organizers themselves, Food Hunt each year has always tried to give it their all to organize these events for participants by making everything fun and enjoyable. For Participants, being able to travel around Singapore while having food coupled with games and challenges at the same time might be the best thing happen for a food lover and a change of pace from the routine studies and/or work.
Lastly we would like to thank and give a special shout-out to the stalls that sponsored the yummy treats for Food Hunt. Without them, this event would not have went smoothly for the committee. In addition to the food sponsors, the school’s support and feedback received from past years event made this event better than ever.

What made you feel like participating in the event?
The enticing prizes were the main reason for joining this event. Other than that, it will be my personal passion to eat. In addition, I believe the experience of the event will be fun and fulfilling.
Overall experience with the event?
Overall, I found the event very smooth, and as a participant I felt that the games were very creative and fresh.
What are the areas of improvement? Please elaborate.
The food and game station could have been closer to one another. It will allow us to have a higher chance of going to more food stations. Prefer to have a non-competitive option where I can team with my friends to have some good meals all around singapore.
Any takeaways from the event?
Overall for this event, it was very tiring as we had been around Singapore since the morning. But all in all, I have gained better experiences like teamwork and fostering better bonds within my friends in the group as well.
What do you like most about this event?
The thing I like the most about this event is that, I am able to travel from stations to stations to hunt for food around Singapore with my friends. They made this trip more enjoyable for me not to mention trying out new food.

What were the challenges faced during the planning of the event and solutions made to overcome these challenges ?
There were some hiccups along the way such as our shirt got delayed in Hong Kong and only arrived in DHL Singapore on Friday night, the day before our event day. We kept in close contact with the shirt supplier and he was nice enough to personally deliver the shirt to us at our school on Saturday(Event Day) morning. We tweaked parts of our timeline to cater to the unexpected issue that happened. The committee members also adapted and reacted well and ensured that this issue did not affect the overall flow of all the activities.
Areas of improvement/ What have you learnt from event planning ?
I’ve learnt that we have to always prepare ourselves for the worst-case scenarios and if everything goes smoothly, it’s a bonus. This way, we would be well-prepared and more adaptable to any unexpected issues that might happen.
How would you describe Food Hunt in your own words ?
Food Hunt is like a bowl of mala. There are many different types of ingredients, when cooked together they taste amazing. It is similar in Food Hunt as all our subcomm members worked together, not only within the subcomm but also with other subcomms. Thus, our work is done more efficiently and effectively and the overall event ended up being a delightful one.
Were there any challenges faced during the event itself, how was it resolved ?
During the event itself, the overall flow of the event was great. There were some minor issues such as teams unable to find the game locations but the issue was resolved on the spot due to the fast reaction from our comm members and seniors. The game masters helped by taking the initiative to stand at a more prominent spot.
